Cradle_cap

During the first weeks & months of life, some babies keep their mother's hormones. Then, their glands, more active than usual, are producing more sebum. The consequence of this sebum excess is that dead cells stick to the scalp when it should dry up and fall off.

You can detect yourself Cradle cap in your newborn by four symptoms:

  • Yellowish greasy patches
  • Redness in the area of those patches
  • Scales & flakes
  • Yellow crusts

Cradle cap starts on the scalp but can spread until behind the ears.

The most important thing is to do not scratch the Cradle cap to avoid any infection.

Most of the time, Cradle cap clear up on its own after a few weeks. However, you can fasten this clearing process and prevent a scale build-up with a particular skincare treatment:

ABCDerm Babysquam: a keratoregulating cream that moisturises and helps eliminate scaly skin.

  • Apply this product to all the cradle cap area (even behind ears and eyebrows ) and massage gently.
  • Leave it on for 30 minutes maximum and wash it off with a hygiene product such as ABCDerm Gel Moussant or ABCDerm Shampooing.

What should I do?

1. Cleansing & skincare

During bath time, up to three times a week, use ABCDerm Babysquam on the cradle cap and leave it on for 30 minutes before rinsing with an ABCDerm hygiene product. Meanwhile, keep your baby busy by playing with him in the bath. Apply until the symptoms disappear.

2. Everyday

  • Always check behind baby's ears to be sure to clear up all trace of cradle cap.
  • Protect his scalp from the sun with a hat.

3. Complete diagnosis

Visit your nurse/paediatrician/dermatologist if the cradle cap does not improve with this skincare treatment, or if it spreads to the face and body of your baby. It might need a particular medicine to clear up.
